Professional Development Partnership Program

The Hanson Film Institute collaborates with and provides support to media organizations that provide professional development programs, in particular NALIP (National Association for Latino Independent Producers) Producers Academy™ held in Tucson with Institute support since 2005.

NALIP Latino Producers Academy™

The Hanson Film Institute works in partnership with the Los Angeles-based NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) and The University of Arizona School of Media Arts to bring NALIP's signature program, the Latino Producers Academy™, annually to Tucson in August. The Hanson Film Institute provides opportunities for University of Arizona students and alumni to intern with a scholarship or work with a stipend for the NALIP Latino Producers Academy™. In addition, the Institute provides funding to NALIP to cover the costs for one University of Arizona Media Arts student to participate in the Producers Academy as a Fellow-in-Training.

The National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) is a national membership organization that addresses the professional needs of Latino/Latina independent producers. NALIP's mission is to promote the advancement, development, and funding of Latino/Latina film and media arts in all genres. NALIP's signature program, the Latino Producers Academy™ was begun in 2003. This intensive program invites Latino feature and documentary producer/director teams in advanced states of development and packaging to a ten-day immersion program that provides each project team with the support needed to bring their film or documentary to production.

The program is not for beginners; it is designed as advanced training through practicums and mentoring with industry professionals. Only select projects are invited to participate, and each team attends on full scholarship, so the application is competitive. Curriculum is developed with UCLA's TFT Professional Certificate Program along with other post-graduate programs committed to the success of emerging creative Latino talent.

For information on how to participate in the NALIP Latino Producers Academy™ as a University of Arizona student or alumni intern or worker, contact the Hanson Film Institute. The selection of the student Fellow-in-Training is made by the faculty of the School of Media Arts. For more information on NALIP or the NALIP Producers Academy™, visit www.nalip.org.
